rsl12 I am not sure if I get it...
Let's say we do in month 1, 4, 7, 10 but two different pieces each month, we have 8 in total.
But what's the advantage over 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12 (every month except the quarterly)?

But if we do 3 times per year (and then 2 different pieces per months = 6 total), we end up with 1 month overlapping with the quarterly. If we want to avoid that overlap, we have a very irregular schedule again.

WieWaldi By doing it that way, participants can choose to do only one piece, and have two months before the publication date. (Of course, the publication date isn't a deadline, but everyone who has participated so far has treated the date like a deadline.)

But it's just an idea. I would be happy with 4 or 8 PIYW per year. 6 per year sounds too complicated, and I don't want to interfere with the PT recital, which is the event we should devote the most time to!

Yes. This is why I tend to think 8 per year is better than 4. Even if there is the risk that fewer people are there for a single piece. 6 per year is somehow out because it is really hard to fit them into the calendar. Let's say we go through your initial list and pick for every genre the 1st piece. Then I would probably do only 3 out of 8. This is a fine number.

Just consider how many people pledged to play Canon in D. And how many of them didn't join the blues - because they don't play blues.

Would coming up with 8 new works every year be a major challenge? It seems that we're having trouble coming up with a list even now! It would be sad if PIYW runs out of steam after a year because we're low on suggestions.

I'm willing to try that. We do 8 PIYW per year, but make the announcements 2 months before the publication dates. I'm a little worried it might get confusing, but maybe I'm over-worrying.

In that case we need a piece to be published October 15, so back to the original topic! There are lots of suggestions on the table, how would you like to pick between them? Can we settle on it being a ~~classical~~ jazz piece? (sorry, I forgot the schedule!!)

I'll be happiest with the tune that gets the most participation, and I'm willing to play any jazz tune. So I'll stay out of the vote 🙂

@rsl12 Looking at your suggestions for the next event, my vote would be The Long And Winding Road. I'm not really a fan of The Beatles, but out of their catalogue of around 200 songs there are about a dozen which I love and that's one of them. (It's a pity that most of the rest are inane dross, but such is the world of pop music.)

By the way, here in the UK we would refer to this as a "Golden Oldie"... we would not usually use the term Oldie on its own, unless referring to an old person, rather than an old hit song.
