Rhodes Stage 61

I came across this recently, the Rhodes Stage 61, which is an electro-mechanical piano, something I'm not otherwise familiar with.

The sound is so very divergent from an acoustic piano, that it's clearly an entirely different instrument. How does it play? Does it have the same kind of dynamic range as a piano? Can you play piano repertoire on it?

i love the Rhodes sound, particularly for things like jazz/hip hop/R&B/ neo-soul, etc.

i can see folks like Corey Henry doing some amazing things with it as well.

no, i have never seen someone play piano repertoire on it, as the timbre/tone certainly isn't for classical kind of stuff. 🙂

I was curious about classical music on an e-piano and found JPS playing Bach on a Rhodes.

And here Bach on a Wurlizer electric piano. When I'm fiddling with keyboard presets, I tend to enjoy the Wurlizer more than the Rhodes. I'm now curious to listen to Bach on some other Wurlizer model that's less gritty than the one James played, as it seems later models have a more gentle sound, as James says. Though that one sounds like something John Paul Jones would play back in the Led Zeppelin days. It sounds very 70's.
