Sophia - Carry Me Back- Very nice! It's exciting to see someone early on in their piano journey progressing the way you are. That's a lovely arrangement of that piece. I'd always thought was a folk tune, so thank you for relaying the information on the composer.

navindra rsl12 Thanks! I was trying to do S-L-S, going against Alfred's suggestion of L-S-L, just to make it my own personal variation, but my sense of timing needs work for sure.

Do you mean instead swinging as Quarter-Eighth triplet, you were trying Eighth-Quarter triplet? Very interesting. I think it could work.

Nightowl I watched this clip to try and help me play the piece more expressively. Lot's of times I'll get a close to note-perfect recording, only to realize that it's pretty bland. I'm not sure if Gene's singing was very expressive, but I loved that garden!

lilypad If you hadn't told me about the rolled tenths, it wouldn't have stood out at all. You pulled it off well, and what an inspiration for people with smaller hands like myself!

ShiroKuro ShiroKuro, that was delightful. It really is a very complex piece, one of my favourites in the
'Encore' album. (Now I know why I found it too hard for me yet!) You brought out the rich qualities of the arrangement with your sensitive performance.
Thank you for your comments on 'Burning', too. It was recorded with Pianoteq. I think I used a tweaked NY Steinway D preset but I tried several others over many weeks so couldn't be sure. It's never straight 'out of the box', I've changed the velocity curve and always adapt the action to get as close as possible to the sound I want.

rsl12 Not quite triplets, as notated it's 1/8 1/8-1/8 1/8 1/8 1/8 -- the second and third eights are tied, so my intent was Short-Longer-Short-Long-Short since Alfred's OKs uneven notes here. Along the way I may have eaten up a beat.

Wow! So am I correct in understanding that for each recording you make, those settings are different? This choosing of the sound is surely as much an art as playing the piece itself!

I love this expression “oops, I ate a beat there”…. That probably describes a lot of my playing!

Jane Barcarolle in F sharp major, Op. 60, by Frédéric Chopin
Live performances are a very different from trying to get a decent recording over many attempts. It's remarkable you did it for ten minutes straight without any mistake. At least not a mistake my ears can detect. But please take this with some grain of salt, as Chopin isn't my cup of tea. I don't know his music and I wouldn't notice a wrong note. But as I said - it sounded good through the entire performance. Big respect to your skills and your ability to play life under that conditions. This is pro-level.
One thing - couldn't you have recorded the applause a bit longer?

rogerch Despite being improvised, I felt a clear sense of progression with the piece. I enjoyed listening to it.

Peyton - Etude #6 by Philip Glass - I like Philip Glass's unique sound and never realized his etudes (or at least that one) required the lightening fast playing that's evident in, say, a Chopin etude. So a slower tempo than you wanted didn't make any difference in my enjoyment of your performance. Great job!

This is of of the main things that always gets me, is the wait to play!

Schubertian2 - Beethoven Sonata in E, Opus 109, 1st Movement - I'm glad you chose the recording method you did. I think a major point of music is how it sounds. It also does justice to your Estonia and how well you play it. I've had the opportunity to play a few Estonia pianos in my piano meetup group and love their singing quality.

rsl12 - What'd I Miss - I've been aware of the general idea of the Hamilton musical since it came out, but never actually heard a song from it. Your performance inspires me to go see it the next time it comes to neighboring Portland, Oregon. I'm embarrassed to admit that after looking it up, I discovered it's played there 4 times. I live in the next state, but only about 20 minutes away Vancouver, WA. What did I miss, indeed.

Simonb Your playing has very nice energy. I’m guessing the middle part with all the really cool riffs was improvised. Very entertaining and inspiring!
