Of course they're unnecessary - the whole thing is a joke. The challenge, such as it were, is sight reading it off the page. There is a way to do this. Consider accidentals as traffic signals saying "move up a semitone (or two), move down a semitone". You see D is the white key D but then obey the traffic signal. Where there was a key signature, every time there was an accidental, it nixed the key signature for that note, so there was a lot less to compute than first appears.
