Cover of Reznor's /Cash's HURT

I'm just having al lot of fun working with my new keyboard. This is a song written by Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) but really made famous by Johnny Cash. The reason I picked this song to play is that someone very, very close to me and I love very much was a heroin addict and came close to death at least three times. Johnny turned this song into a song about old age and dying but Reznor wrote this song as an addict and it really hit home.

Except for the bass I did all of this on the keyboard. The drums are a manipulated backing track.

Thanks. I just realized I had no drums on this. So everything but the bass is played on the Yamaha. I think I'm really starting to figure out how to make the guitar sound more authentic. (I really stink on guitar so using the keyboard is a great alternative. ) I just finished a cover of Bowie's "The Man Who Sold the World" and have no piano at all. I have three guitars, organ and cello all done on the keyboard with the bass, again, seperate. The keyboard actually has some amazing bass voices but I just like playing the bass.

Thanks, I debated with myself how much I wanted to deviate from his cover and in the end... I knew nothing could top his. So I just worked at trying to get that same feeling he evoked. I totally copied his (actually his producer Rick Ruben's) production as best I could. It was fun trying to get that same sound. I think my recorder came really close. I added a little here and there but couldn't help myself.

I hope you post a video of "The Man Who Sold the World"
I am unable to play guitar anymore, due to a finger problem, and currently using a guitar VST, to compensate.
I enjoy trying to re-create some of the fingerstyle songs I used to play.
It is not quite the same, but an interesting exercise.

Rob Thanks Rob. As a gutarist you would be one step ahead of me. I'm a bassest but never really learned guitar so trying to mimic the strum/picking is tough for me. But the more I do it the more amazed I am by the voices available. When you do it right it really does sound like the real thing. I finished recording and mixing The Man Who Sold the World but it will have to cue up behind a bunch of other pieces I have finished. (Hate to put them all up at once as I don't get that many listeners as it is). I have Red,Red Wine (UB 40) and Do You Love Me (Nick Cave) ahead of the Nirvana piece. I'm just starting on Good Thing (Fine Young Cannibals)...another one of my all time favorites. I've kind of put my originals on hold for a while as I'm learning so much by working on these covers.
