Re playing the hardest parts first, I do that often, but usually after I play once through the whole piece. Obviously with this prelude, I can’t do that because it’s too hard for me. I decided that this piece is still too much of a jump in difficulty.
So I’ve actually decided to put this piece aside while I play some “easier” pieces — as in, easier than this Rach prelude, but still harder than what I’ve been working on.
One thing I noticed is that nothing I’ve played recently has four-note chords. Well, that’s not quite true, there are pieces that maybe have block chords in the LH or a big chord somewhere, but not big chords throughout.
So it’s not even just that I need to play more chordal music, which is what my teacher and I decided last week, but I think I need to play music which is consistently chordal, has lots of three- and four-note chords and has them in both hands, esp. the RH because I’m finding that I am better with LH chords.
But again, I’ve been surprised at my sloppy reading, since I consider reading to be one of my strengths. But I’m often misreading one of the interior notes when it’s a four-note chord.
I am definitely going to return to the Rach, maybe even after what I’m working on right now. I’ll grab a video so you can hear it….
