... feeling like the pianist on the Titanic ...
(I'm joking of course. It would be a fun challenge to write lyrics, but not a fun challenge to actually sing the melody.)
Sophia So now I face the difficult decision whether I want to be a Serious Pianist who Plays Bach
There are hundreds of other pieces by Bach to choose from if you don't like this one.
Animisha About the Bach piece, it is Piano Syllabus level 9. Completely outrageous of Alred's editor to put that in their book.
There are very many transcriptions of that organ work. So unless one knows the piano syllabus is ranking the one posted in this thread, one can't conclude the ranking for the piece posted on this thread is level 9. Maybe The piano syllabus is ranking this transcription by Busoni:
I canβt answer that one, pianoloverus, and Iβm currently in between computers so I canβt scan my page either. But the pieces surrounding it are Prelude in C Major from the Well Tempered Clavier, Trumpet Tune, Fur Elise, Prelude in A Major (Chopin), and Moonlight Sonata. That should give an indication of the level of this particular transcription. I canβt imagine it would suddenly deviate all that much from the norm
Sophia I found one listing on piano syllabus for the Bach Toccata in D minor that was ranked 9 but it was the Busoni transcription which makes perfect sense. Unless there was another specific listing for the version posted earlier (which doesn't even have a transcriber listed on the sheet music), then the assumption that the previously posted transcription is a level 9 is incorrect.
Haha yeah, I would have assumed the same really. But I didn't quite think I had progressed to level 9 after such a short time (I wish!) so I readily believe it when I hear that this version is more at the "Fur Elise" level I am just about to reach ^_^
