I watched some of the performances so far. They were OK but I think the last contestant, Angeline Ma, is a much more mature artist than the ones before. Unfortunately, she had a slip in the etude and then recovered. I hope she still makes it through to the next round despite that because I loved her nocturne and ballade.

[random comment] - based on hearing the tone of that piano, I'm 99% certain it's a New York Model D, and not a Hamburg one. It sounds so distinctly American piano, very close to the Modern D I have, and very different from the VSL D-274 (Hamburg).

HeartKeys In one of the in-between interviews Ben had with a player, it was mentioned that each has his/her choice of a New York or Hamburg. IIRC, Angeline said she chose the Hamburg.

I'd love to see even an hour with nobody under 18 posting. Or maybe 21, because there seem to be a few juvenile conservatory kids as well.
But at least some of them can spell "oops". Sigh....
So as you say, I think a lot of it is insecure children hoping someday maybe they'll be stars.
But the best feature is that little X in the upper right that lets me close the chat window 😏

Probably they're happy that their kids are watching piano instead of playing video games! But some of the competitors are teenagers themselves. I haven't listened in to much but I was shocked at how young some of them are. They haven't even graduated from high school!

I see there are fans of her here. 😀

I didn't listen to many of the performances but when I heard her in the first round she struck me as very artistic. The first impression I got of her Nocturne in B major, Op. 62 No. 1 was that it reminds me of Kate Liu's version and sure enough in the interview she mentioned Kate Liu as one of her influences.

I have to listen to performances of the other contestants to form a better opinion.

Unfortunately, the tickets are really hard to get (they open the ticket sale 1 year before the event and everything is sold out within 1 hour). I never went to see it live and it won't happen this year, unfortunately. 🙁

BartK that's a bummer, I hope you get to go in the future! It sounds like the kind of thing where you set an alarm on that day and then be ready at your computer. If it sells out in an hour and not the first few minutes, you should be able to get tickets if you're ready that day 🙂
