2 decades ago I had an opportunity to see LL in Toronto at the Roy Thomson Hall. It's once famous for the terrible acoustics before undergoing renovations. The feature was Chopin piano Concerto #1 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. After that the TSO played several pieces without the piano to fill the hour. Then LL came back on stage for an encore playing a Chopin Etude. The audience (with many Asian faces) was very excited. After the concert was the lineup at the back for the featured CD with personal autograph by LL.
Another attraction was the Yamaha piano used by Glenn Gould on display outside the auditorium. A student (probably from the local Toronto University Faculty of Music) sat down to play something before being stopped by a security man.
LL appeals to the public in a very approachable way.
