Dr. Gebrianites - I'm wondering if any of you have tried this practice method yet? Video link below is a refresher from one of this month's practice challenges, which then has links to the full length videos for reference.
Although I want to integrate a lot (if not all) of her methods, so far this is the only one I've managed to make good headway on. One step at a time I suppose. Random practice is next. I will do this. I WILL. 😀
This method definitely works! I used it in several sections of a particularly challenging piece last week. I spent a few days on that, needing to do it beat by beat. After taking 3 days off practice for my work week, yesterday I was able to switch to full measures fairly easily (to be fair...it's in 2/4 so that's only 2 beats). When I started last week I was barely able to get through some beats, haltingly. So this seems like very good progress to me, and it's so much more satisfying to actually have a strategic plan vs. my previous style of practice (trying to tackle a whole section at once, just playing all the way through, making too many mistakes, getting mad at myself, blah blah blah).
It did make me realize that I probably should not have chosen this piece yet. There are a LOT of sections that need this type of work, and it's going to be time consuming to work through them all. I think ideally this would be needed for just a handful of measures or short sections.
