I'm not sure if I'm looking at a spam post selling a software product by a newly minted member. If we do see something potentially problematic, is there a "notify" feature?

keystring yes. If you click on the … next to the Like feature, one of the options will be to Flag a post. You can mark something as suspected spam. It will be sent to the moderators for review.

We saw the post already. Navindra decided to let it be for now since it's piano-related and only a one-off but maybe it bothers people. It would be good to know how people feel about such posts.

BartK I think it depends if Navindra wants to keep this as a place only for a participating community, or if anything piano-related goes.

On the plus side it looks like PT is being found on the web, so that's great news!!

I know! We could add a forum called Piano spam. All piano spam posts can be moved there. Non-piano spam posts should be deleted.

The reason behind this is that I am some of us could be interested in new piano related apps or products. 😎

Perhaps the moderators could reach out to the poster and see if they're planning to stick around to answer questions about their product etc? If they're potentially active and a real person I'd feel better about it.

Edit: @Animisha just saw your question on that post, I guess we'll find out soon!

Animisha It's not uncommon for forums to have a subforum specifically for folks to self-promote, whether it's apps for sale, stirring up audiences for gigs, etc. Might not be the worst idea at some point, but I guess we can see how much of it happens first.

            Enthusiastic but mediocre amateur.

Thanks. That particular post was in the gray area for me and it might even be useful info for someone. But it got me thinking about what if a real and serious spam comes along. I've seen some doozies at times.

Yes, it is indeed piano-related. There's one question in there, and I have another --- didn't respond yesterday since I was on the fence knowing whether the post belonged.

              Good point.

On this idea: over in PW ages ago someone new posted about an app. A few of us asked questions that stayed unanswered: I wrote a PM. Well, months later the person actually wrote back in the PM, and also went into the thread to answer the questions. That changed my whole impression.

Is this limited to piano spam? what about the original spam? 😃

If there is eventually a "For sale/Classified/Promotions" subforum, I wonder if posts in that forum should be excluded from the "All Discussions" list.

We've had outright spam here once. We deleted the post and deleted the account.

I felt like this post was topical enough... a 1-person operation just released a brand new piano app and thought to announce it on the digital forum. I was OK assuming good intent here, but if general sentiment turns the other way, we can revisit.

As @iternabe says we can also potentially tag such posts both so that they will be excluded from All Discussions and so that users can ignore the topic completely. In general, need to invest a bit into all the Ignore feedback I've received — once I wrap up some of the loose ends with the recital!
